Just in time for Valentine’s Day is the
romantic-comedy movie, Playing for Keeps which features an all-star cast led by
Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Dennis Quaid, Uma Thurman and Catherine
Zeta-Jones.
Gerard Butler plays George, a burnt-out
professional soccer player who decides to take a break from the professional
arena and return to his home town in Virginia. Determined to win back his
ex-wife (Jessica Biel) and their son (Noah Lomax), he decides to take the
coaching job of their local junior league soccer team. However, with every
cougar soccer mom’s eye on his good looks and physique, he has a difficult time
focusing on his goals.
For those looking for heart-pounding thrills on Valentine’s Day, SM Cinema offers the slasher movie, Smiley. Caitlin Gerard (from the movie, Magic Mike) plays Ashley, a young woman convinced that the urban legend Smiley, a murderous maniac who can be summoned from the Internet, is no more than a myth. But Smiley exists and he won’t rest until Ashley is proven wrong in a pool of her own blood.
On February 20, SM Cinema premieres the
local romantic-drama Iliw, featuring Kaye Abad, Ping Medina, and Japanese actor
Hiroyuki Takashima. Set in 1939 during the Japanese occupation of the
Philippines, the movie tells the story of Fidela (Kaye Abad) who moves to
Baguio from her hometown in Vigan to avoid the romantic advances of her
childhood friend, Pablo (Ping Medina). When
Fidela’s father is captured by the Japanese Imperial Army on suspicion of
Treason, she is forced to return home. A
chance encounter with a high ranking Japanese officer, Col. Takahashi (Hiroyuki
Takashima) changes both their lives forever.
