OS X: Grumpy Cat

I'm getting used to OS X of Apple Mac right now. I used to be a MS Windows 7 user.
I'm browsing through Catster.com on facebook when I spotted this cute cat pic on their facebook wall saying: "Maybe we can petition Apple to make this their next operating system name?"

Who wouldn't find it cute and funny?

Well it's just a thought but if it's going to be cats, people will love it!
Because most of the operating systems of Mac are named Snow Leopard, Lion and the latest OS X is the Mountain Lion. Most people in every country love cats, don't you think?!

Call Center Work: More Fun in the Philippines

I'm back in the BPO industry again last month, working myself hard like a dog in order to survive the city life. I was born in Manila and grew up here all my life. In my opinion, city life is complicated and fast-paced while in the countryside it's more laid back and a simple life. I love my work right now and I'm enjoying it.

What is BPO?
BPO stands for Business Process Outsourcing. Most multinational foreign companies have outsourcing in other countries, mostly are in the third world countries like the Philippines.  Many Filipinos are switching their career into this kind of industry because of financial reasons. Whether you believe it or not, me and my two other sisters are working in a call center but different companies.

So how is it like to work for a BPO or call center company?

1. Multi-Cultural environment – Offshore call centers deal with US-based clients and customers. Since the US is a multi-cultural country, we get calls from diverse backgrounds. Our headquarters is also in the US, so we have officemates of different nationalities.

2. Night Shift work schedule – The job of a CSR (Customer Service Rep) may require working in the evening, night or “graveyard” and in rotating schedules. We follow US working hours because that’s where the customers are coming from.

3. Dynamic and fast-paced – Things happen quickly in call centers and CSRs have to learn to work gracefully under pressure.

4. Performance-driven culture - Call center folks are highly driven and strongly motivated to succeed.

5. Continuous Training - Employees are encourage to learn everything they can during training so they will be prepared to go “live” on the floor. Continuous training help employees move to the next level in their BPO career.

6. Multi-Tasking skills - The skill set requirements for CSRs are quantum leaps away from directory assistance. A CSR engages the caller in a conversation, while at the same time follows a set of protocols to help solve the caller's problem - whether it is for customer service or technical support. This requires analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to multi-task while on a call.

7. Fun at Work – Call center work is no joke, so we find time to do fun things and exciting activities.

8. Casual Work Environment – The environment is made comfortable for employees to be able to work efficiently. Our Open-door policy, employee-friendly facilities, casual work clothes, fun and crazy activities make for a relaxing and comfortable environment.

9. Youthful Environment – Although employees are aged anywhere between 19 and 60, our environment is generally youthful. Employees radiate a fresh and vibrant attitude that’s just full of life!

10. World-class Customer Service – Customer Service is our bread and butter – we live and breathe it. We give efficient, respectful and value added service to our internal and external customers. Our mantra? “Exceed expectations in every interaction.”

Ballet Manila: Sinderela

Ballet Manila offers a modern take on the classic fairy tale Cinderella in its Christmas production, combining the elements of love, magic and dance in a fun and enchantment-filled package perfect for the holidays.

In Sinderela, the prince becomes matinee idol Al Principe who holds a search for his leading lady through a grand dance audition. With the help of her fairy godmother Tita Nia, Sinderela gets to show off her dancing skills which are far more refined than those of her wicked stepsisters. But at the stroke of midnight Sinderela hurriedly departs, leaving behind her slipper and an awestruck Al to figure out who its rightful owner is.

With libretto/story adaptation and choreography by Hazel Sabas-Gower, Sinderela will have its world premiere on November 30 at the Aliw Theater, CCP Complex, Pasay City. Shows are also scheduled on December 1, 2, 8 and 9.

Prima ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde steps into Sinderela's slippers, with Jennifer Rose Olayvar and Sofia Sangco-Peralta as alternates. Taking on the role of Al Principe are Nazer Salgado, Romeo Peralta and Rudy de Dios. Hana Oh dances as Tita Nia, the beggar-woman who turns out to be a nature enchantress.

Using music by Sergei Prokofiev, Sinderela is based on the classic tale by Charles Perrault and the Grimm brothers. Libretto editor is Scott Gower, with set design by Katsch Catoy and costume design by PJ Aranador.

“This 21st century Pinoy interpretation of a well-loved fairy tale is not to be missed,” promises Macuja-Elizalde, who is also Ballet Manila's artistic director. “Sinderela has all the familiar elements, but with a twist they can relate to. Instead of a grand ball, we have a dance audition reminiscent of the reality talent competitions we see on television today. Then we have garden spirits and time spirits that will also be entertaining to watch.”

Along with Sinderela, Ballet Manila also presents Sonata, its tribute to the 150th birth anniversary of Sir Edward William Elgar. With choreography by Ballet Manila artistic associate and rehearsal master Osias Barroso, the homage in dance is set to Elgar's Sonata in E minor, opus 82 for Violin and Piano.

Featured in select performances are guest violinist Robert Atchison and pianist Olga Dudnik. Mylene Aggabao and Eileen Lopez are the restagers of Sonata.

The world premiere of Sinderela is presented by the Manila Broadcasting Company, Ballet Manila and Aliw Theater in cooperation with Bank of Singapore, with special thanks to First United Travel, Star City, Ralph's Wines and Spirits and Island Rose.

Cook Magazine: 12 Years Of Sharing The Good Life

Cook Magazine began in 2000 to recognize the huge difference between restaurant food and home cooked food. It was designed & written for the millions of Filipinos who are fanatic about home cooking by hobbyists and foodies superior including articles and recipes made for and by food lovers.
In the past, the magazine had been covering artisan foods from meals to snacks, beverages, cheeses, condiments, meat and seafood categories, perhaps the biggest bulk of the selections have been sweets—fine candy, artisan chocolates, cookies, brownies and desserts.

In reply to the shifting market and consumer needs, the new COOK Content looks at the future of food and its role in pop culture. Food editor Chef Danny De la Cuesta gathers a handful of food visionaries, industry practitioners, celebrity chefs for great food exchange in all the magazine’s 2013 issues. In the 88 pages, it will discuss the newest and best products, food recommendations, reviews, how-to’s, reference articles, culinary destinations, product recipes or go-to source of consumer information in the dynamic food category. It will also include artisanal and small-production consumer items that readers might not have discovered on their own plus information on how to use them to make everyday dining and entertaining easier and more exciting.

Cook will make a lot of editorial on mass-produced brands, food service and food festivals, widening its reach to industry professionals because it promises to be the only consumer publication that will review best brands of foods, restaurants and beverages in every category.

The management & staff of COOK Magazine hosted an early holiday bash to thank their advertisers, friends, partners and all those who rallied behind the magazine this year.

The December issue that will hit stands in the first week of December 2012, features Katrina Ponce Enrile as the cover image- a fashion influencer and a culinary entrepreneur. She describes Cook Magazine as "an institution and a community for so many people that it created a new category- homecooks- when it launched and has remained the highest-selling cookery title in its entire market life.”
The event also took the opportunity to make public the New Look and Conceptual Direction of the Magazine that will be offering consumers an ever more diverse way of accessing its brand, in print through the magazine, and bookazines, online through the website and mobile and face-to-face through our Food Events.
Today COOK is a market leading-food magazine, selling 83,500 copies a month. Each issue is packed with over 44 recipes for everyday meals, easy entertaining and dishes from food experts. Yabang Pinoy: It’s Worth Buying For

Yabang Pinoy intensifies its consumer revolution campaign through the PHmade movement.

The pioneering Filipino pride movement, through PHmade, yet again encourages Filipinos to support Filipino ideas, business concepts, products, and services. The campaign aims to educate Filipinos, through videos, print materials and events, on the availability and viability of Filipino brands, and on the positive impact that going local contributes to the economy.

PHmade’s tagline “It’s Worth Buying For” encourages each Filipino to think twice before spending: is it really worth buying for? Yabang Pinoy believes that small things, when done together, can create a big difference. If each Filipino became conscious of where he spends one peso, he will understand how each choice affects himself, fellow Filipinos, and the country. PHmade also aspires to influence Filipino entrepreneurs into supporting local natural and human resources.

Indeed, patronage of locally made goods and services should be a lifestyle. It enables homegrown brands to improve and compete against foreign brands. The local economy also improves as money goes back and forth between consumer and business, employee and employer. And as more entrepreneurs create, develop, and expand their businesses, more job opportunities are generated. PHmade recognizes Filipino ingenuity and the role of each Filipino in nation-building.

PHmade focuses on seven categories: Produce, Home, Footwear, Fashion, Personal and Home Care, Food and Beverage, and Entertainment. The campaign will continue to collaborate with Filipino entrepreneurs and encourage them to continue to improve their products and services and to always aim for Filipino brands to be global brands.

PHmade is a project of Yabang Pinoy, the pioneering Filipino pride movement that started in 2005. As it celebrates its 8th anniversary, the organization includes it among numerous Filipino pride projects, such as the Y.A.B.A.N.G. Camp (Youth Achievers Building A Nation of Greatness Camp), Yabang Pinoy Goes to School, Pinaka-mahabang Todo Patintero, Global Pinoy Bazaar, and many more. In the 8 years that Yabang Pinoy has immersed itself in various nation-building activities, it re-affirms its belief that true progress and development in our country will start once Filipinos begin living a proudly Filipino lifestyle.

Yabang Pinoy invites every Filipino to be part of the PHmade movement. As early as now, save November 10- 11 2012 for the 8th Global Pinoy Bazaar – a showcase of Filipino products made with 100% Filipino Love and Pride.
