Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila: Supports Earth Hour

As part of the brand’s signature corporate social responsibility campaign, Thrive, Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila proudly participates in Earth Hour’s annual global campaign by turning the lights off for an hour on 23 March from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

As a gesture of support, the hotel is turning off exterior lights and minimising non-essential lighting in all public areas and offices, as well as stopping the escalator for an hour.  To add a touch of charm to this event, a romantic candlelit dinner experience awaits diners in all the outlets, especially at The Fireplace where premium steak and wine is the main draw. Guests can also enjoy Room Service in an evening picnic setting with the family in their own room, as well as being pampered at the candlelit Spa at Club Oasis.  Aside from these activities, all in-house guests are urged to participate by reducing their power usage during this hour.

A limited-edition offer at the Pastry Boutique throughout March allows guests to go the extra mile in saving the earth by purchasing a pair of panda cupcakes for only P400 net, with a P60 donation to the World Wildlife Fund and Earth Hour for every pair sold.  Inspired by the World Wildlife Fund mascot, they are made of a chocolate cupcake base with coconut cake and Oreo biscuits, offering a triple treat of luscious goodness.

Dimming the lights on 23 March is not only an exciting tradition at Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila, it’s also an opportunity to experience the hotel and restaurants in a different light.

For enquiries and reservations, please call the hotel’s food and beverage reservations centre on +63 2 247 8666.  Alternatively, e-mail cath.mn@hyatt.com or make restaurant reservations online by visiting manila.casino.hyatt.com.

Sensodyne: Introduces Repair & Protect!

What is tooth sensitivity?
Tooth sensitivity occurs when the dentine underneath the tooth enamel becomes exposed. When exposed dentine comes into contact with hot or cold, sweet, sour or even your toothbrush it can trigger the nerve, causing a short sharp pain.

NEW TECHNOLOGICAL BREAKTHROUGH:
Repair & Protect

“Helps repair sensitive areas of your teeth”

How does the new Sensodyne Repair & Protect work?

New Sensodyne Repair & Protect is different from other toothpastes. It has a unique, clinically proven concentrated calcium formula that helps repair vulnerable areas with the natural building blocks of your teeth.

¬When Being Sensitive Becomes A Bad Thing
Nobody wants to be around an insensitive person.
You know the type–the guy who never thinks twice when speaking his mind. The tactless girl who spills everybody’s secrets. The abrasive ones.
But neither does anyone want to be someone who’s too sensitive.
We Pinoys have a term for it: balat-sibuyas. The one who’s easily hurt or offended from the smallest joke. The one who can’t take a chill pill and raises an insurrection against anything that remotely makes a negative observation about his or her quirks.
To think about it, being too sensitive might even be worse than insensitivity.
And no, it’s not just emotions we’re talking about.
Let’s Talk About Dentine Hypersensitivity
In the study entitled “The everyday impact of dentine sensitivity: personal and functional aspects”1, conducted by professionals from the University of Sheffield and the University of Toronto, the researchers noted that “the emotional impact of dentine sensitivity is directly linked to the major distressing factor of the oral condition – pain, its unpredictability and detrimental effect on natural and supposedly pleasant daily routines of food consumption. Affective evaluation of physical pain occurs simultaneously or soon after sensitivity episodes, in bringing mind and body, invoking ‘displeasure, anxiety, sadness and anger that are fully emotional.’”
In the Philippines, a consumer survey revealed that 7 out of 10 Filipinos* have sensitive teeth. 78% of people experience the phenomenon known as pangingilo when eating or drinking something cold, while 47% experience this when eating or drinking something sour, and 45% reported pain when consuming hot food or drinks**. However, because of the natural tendency to dismiss this condition, dentine hypersensitivity persists, to the detriment of its sufferers.

Yes – Pinoys are Too Sensitive

Remember when some of us launched a Twitter war versus an international teenage singing sensation and his horde of fans when the famous teen pop star posted mocking photos of a Filipino boxing hero right after his crushing defeat?

How about the Amerasian actress who “doesn’t want to look Filipino” incident? Or when we cried foul because a Hollywood actress said Manila was infested with rats and cockroaches?

Fine – maybe it’s a matter of us Pinoys defending the national pride.

NOVAMIN® formula releases the building blocks of teeth: calcium and phosphate. These ions form a protective mineral layer to repair the vulnerable areas of the tooth.

Usage:
Brush twice a day and not more than three times, minimize swallowing and spit out. Close cap after each use to protect contents from moisture. Do not use if foil seal on the nozzle is broken. Remove foil seal before use.

Suggested retail price for Sensodyne Repair & Protect is Php198.00. Available nationwide in leading supermarkets, drugstores, groceries, hypermarkets and department stores.

But here’s a thought: what if we’re just being too sensitive?

Funnily, a recent global poll revealed that Filipinos are the most emotional people – ranking higher than El Salvador, Bahrain, Oman, and Colombia.1

Are we too sensitive for our own good? Maybe.

And surprisingly, we’re not just talking about emotions here.

Hypersensitive Filipinos

In a consumer survey conducted, results revealed that 7 out of 10 Filipinos* have sensitive teeth – a condition Pinoys often refer to as pangingilo.

Mr. Ube: The Souperstar

Mr.Ube Rice and Noodle House

In the competitive space of the culinary business, only the toughest survive. The saying “If you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen” is indeed true for most food entrepreneurs.

But for Gerry Chua, a businessman with both a vision and a mission, the heat in the kitchen even more fires up his passion to offer the best dining experience. Try visiting his restaurant Mr. Ube Rice and Noodle House and you’ll find out for yourself why this food mecca is already making noise among culinary connoisseurs.

Although Chinese cuisine constitutes majority of Mr. Ube Rice and Noodle House’s menu, there are an array of food offerings that will surely tickle your taste buds. Take your pick: noodle soup, rice toppings, stir fry noodles, dimsum, and a lot more.

“We take pride in the restaurant's specialty: our noodles. Our noodles are made fresh every day. We use state-of-the-art Japanese technology in making them,” said Chua. “Our ingredients are natural and they have no preservatives. I am proud to say that the food we serve at Mr. Ube Rice and Noodle House are MSG-free and they are non-grease.”

From the very basic chicken noodle soup to wanton noodle, Mr. Ube Rice and Noodle House also features a variety of international noodle soups. Want to try Thai? Order Thai Tom Yam. Hungry like a lion? The Singaporean Laksa is for you. Craving for Japanese? Sip some Japanese Shoyu. If Chinese is your choice, then Gokong Noodle should be on your plate. These and more will let you experience a gastronomic adventure in this noodle house.

Since Chua is also the visionary behind Eng Bee Tin Chinese Deli, some of its varied product ranges can also be ordered at Mr. Ube Rice and Noodle House. Its most famous ube hopia and all-time favorite tikoy can be have when you visit any branch.
Eng Bee Tin Tikoy

With a rich history that can be traced from humble beginnings in Ongpin, Eng Bee Tin has mastered the art of producing world-class Oriental delicacies. Because Chua knows his way around business, he found a way to reinvent a rather usual hopia by blending it with ube, the most popular ice cream flavor at the time. The rest is history as Eng Bee Tin’s ube hopia became a household name.

Eng Bee Tin Mochi Kreme (P250)
Eng Bee Tin products are locally available in various supermarkets, groceries, restaurants, office, and school canteens. The company is also one of the biggest international exporters of hopia, delivering to Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the USA.

Chua also ensures that quality is key. The company uses automated hopia manufacturing processes and implements a strict hygienic standards of quality control by running the final product through metal detectors, and packaging it in a hygienic pillow pack.

Though a businessman, Chua knows his responsibility to the community where his businesses operate from. In Ongpin where Eng Bee Tin is found, the company donated to the local volunteer fire brigade as evidenced by the purple fire engines that make their way through fire incidents and situations in the vicinity. His other business, Cafe Mezzanine, is also making an impact to the community as its revenues are completely donated to Binondo Paco Fire Volunteer. Recognizing the efforts and hard work fire volunteers put into their job, they get a 20-percent discount when they dine at Cafe Mezzanine, located at the heart of Chinatown. That is if their free coffee is not yet enough.

“Our commitment to our society should be never-ending,” said Chua. “Mr. Ube Rice and Noodle House aims to acquire five units of ambulance to serve the indigents who can’t afford to pay for ambulance service to hospitals.”

Indeed, Chua’s entrepreneurial vision is deliciously complemented by his life mission to touch lives. No wonder he is one accomplished man and his businesses, successful without a doubt.

Mr. Gerry Chua, Founder and President of TXTFIRE PHILIPPINES FOUNDATION, INC., a.k.a. Mr. Ube was very fond of texting. He loves to forward text jokes and news to his friends and relatives. Since Mr. Chua is a fireman himself, he decided to might as well text to his friends where the fire is. Until later, a friend called him and asked him not to send these messages as they were just disturbing him. Mr. Chua being a busy man forgot to erase his name on the group text. Until one day his friend approached him, and said thank you. Thank you because if not for the text of Mr. Chua, he would not know that there was a fire at back of his house. His friend at that time was in the market and his kids were still at home sleeping.

So then did Mr. Chua decide to make this bigger, better, and faster!

Suaveng Ahit, Gwapong Schick Barangay Tour Launched

Looking and feeling good is not just about taking care of yourself; it’s about caring for the things around you and the world you live in. This is precisely what razor brand Schick strives to promote with its ongoing Suaveng Ahit, Gwapong Schick Barangay Tour.

As one of the most trusted personal grooming brands for both men and women, Schick goes all out in pushing its advocacy by reaching out to their valued patrons. Through this project, the brand hopes to continue its goal of imparting positivity and self-confidence not only on a personal level but on the community scale.

The tour got off in on a rousing start last December when the caravan rolled into Salamalabanan Subdivision in Imus, Cavite, where the group initiated different activities focused on engaging and educating the community on proper physical grooming, healthy and active lifestyle, and community awareness.

The project was well received and garnered positive feedback from the community—something that Schick hopes to replicate in other locations within the metro. “We could not have asked for a better start to this tour,” says Claire Guevara, Schick senior brand manager. “The Salamalabanan community here in Imus, Cavite was very gracious and receptive to what we were trying to accomplish as a brand. We greatly appreciate the effort and the participation put forth by the community and we hope that the same goes with our next destination.”

The tour will continue to visit designated locations throughout 2013, including communities around the area of Caloocan, Muntinlupa, Antipolo and Quezon City.

As part of the brand’s continuing mission to make people feel good both inside and out, the tour’s initiatives include activities such as giving free shaves and haircuts to residents, as well as conducting clean-up drives that help encourage community awareness of health and safety among the youth.

In the first leg the tour also hosted competitions that included a three-on-three basketball game, a free-throw and half-court shootout, as well as a dance showdown, all of which promoted good sportsmanship and camaraderie within the community. The winners and participants received cash prizes and gift packs from Schick.

The group stayed true to its promise of reaching out to the grassroots level. Together with celebrity host Regine Tolentino, the caravan visited tricycle terminals, groceries, and sari-sari stores and immersed themselves in the community while handing out free Schick products.

For more information on other tours, prizes, and promos, visit Schick’s website (www.schick.com.ph) or connect with the company via Facebook (facebook.com/schick.ph). For Twitter updates, follow @schicksuave.
